DogShelter.com is designed so visitors can freely search adoptable dogs and shelter directories without creating an account or granting device geolocation access.
- Adopter Accounts: If you register, we collect your name, email address, password hash, and optional phone number.
- Adoption Inquiries: When you submit an inquiry regarding an adoptable dog, we collect your name, email, city/state, phone (optional), and your message.
- Favorites & Saved Searches: Saved dogs and search filters are stored locally in your browser and synced to your profile upon login.
- Shelter Accounts: For organization staff, we collect official organization contact details, verification documentation, and facility hours.
2. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal adopter information. When you submit an adoption inquiry for a dog, your contact information and message are delivered exclusively to the specific shelter or rescue organization that listed that dog.
We never share private foster-home addresses, internal shelter staff notes, or adopter email addresses in public listings.
3. Data Security & Retention
We employ industry-standard encryption, secure HTTP-only session cookies, salted password hashing, and role-based access control to protect stored data. You may request account and inquiry deletion at any time through your Adopter Dashboard.
